Origin of American Dream: where did the term come from?

Wickham, read and discuss. This is a true story of an immigrant's journey. After discussing, we assigned a free write about coming to America. This can be made up or factual. This is brainstorming activity. Don't stop and edit. "Write the first draft with your heart. The second draft write with your mind." Sean Connery in "Finding Forrester."

  1. I find it funny the lack of social intelligence this man has. The way he asks her about where she came from; based solely on her skin color, then when she asked him the same question he looked dumbfounded. Then he says American that is so interesting because he has no idea where he comes from but because of his skin color he feels entitled to ask people who aren't white.

  2. This video shows the lack of information that people have about the Asian culture. How people are quick to assume that if you are of a specific ethnicity that you suddenly adapt to all of their social cues. Eating their food, speaking that language, knowing everything a "typical" Asian would know. To make her seem as though she is less intelligent by saying the exact thing but slower and then to say that she is weird/crazy for mocking him in his stupidity. Sad.
